Product Description of Adiponitrile CAS#111-69-3
Adiponitrile, also known as ADN, molecular formula C₆H₈N₂ and molecular weight 108.14 g/mol. It is a colorless to pale yellow oily liquid with a mild faint odor, and is slightly soluble in water while miscible with common organic solvents.
Its melting point is 1–3 ℃, boiling point about 295 ℃, density 0.965–0.969 g/cm³ at 20 ℃. This aliphatic dinitrile has stable physical properties under normal conditions. It serves as the key raw material for producing hexamethylenediamine, the monomer for nylon 66.It is prone to reacting with strong oxidants. Store it in tightly sealed containers, kept in cool, dry and ventilated warehouses, separated from oxidizing substances to avoid safety risks.

Product Application of Adiponitrile CAS#111-69-3
Adiponitrile is a high-value linear dinitrile intermediate and one of the most critical upstream materials in the polyamide value chain. Its dominant application — accounting for the large majority of global demand — is catalytic hydrogenation to hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), which is then polycondensed with adipic acid to produce polyamide 6,6 (nylon 6,6). Nylon 6,6 is widely used in engineering plastics, automotive components, electronic connectors, industrial filaments, and apparel/industrial fibers. Adiponitrile also serves as a key precursor for 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), a high-performance aliphatic isocyanate used in durable polyurethane coatings, and for nylon 610 production.
Beyond polyamides, it is used in organic synthesis, as an extractant for aromatic hydrocarbons, in electronics and light-industry applications, and increasingly investigated as a high-voltage electrolyte solvent for lithium-based energy storage. Its bifunctional nitrile structure, high boiling point, and excellent thermal stability make it an indispensable building block for advanced polymer and fine chemical industries.
